In the UK irksome celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has recently woken the country and the government to the fact that the appalling diet and lack of exercise enjoyed by many of our youth is storing up a reserve of fat that will haunt the NHS for years to come. So there are now plans to limit the advertising of high fat/sugar/salt junk food to children - not so much though that profits are hit too hard.

With this current strand, what better time to put a big juicy burger on our children's alphabet card?

Do you want fries with that?

I've omitted the sesame seeds - too fussy. For photo shoots a food stylist will apply them one by one using tweezers and tiny dabs of glue.

They may call McDonalds and Burger King 'restaurants' but it takes forever for the waitress to come to your table (groan). When I was a child we generally ate at table, using cutlery*, but were still instructed "wash your hands before eating". When was the last time you washed your hands before eating a burger?

See also hotdog, the burger's poor(er) relation.

*Except for bread and jam and cakes at tea time. Yes, it was that long ago.
