A Xenophobe is someone who is unduly fearful or contemptuous of strangers or foreigners. That qualifies as rather politically incorrect in my book.

Love your alphabet... how about a little green alien head representing "X" - Xenu, the Scientology ruler...

That would give us a second X, though I'm not sure many people would make the association - I expect 'eXtraterrestrial' or 'X-files' would come to mind before 'Xenu'. Besides, what makes you think Xenu was small or green?

See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenu, also the suggestion of Scientology.

Although you already have a skeleton, a close up of some bones would do for x-ray, I'm sure

My problem with 'X-ray' is with finding a way to depict it that meets the criteria for these illustrations - i.e. that it would once have been permitted in an illustrated alphabet but now, because of political correctness, would not pass muster.* The nearest I have so far is a picture of someone having x-rays as part of an entertainment, as that offends against health and safety. You can imagine the Black and White Minstrels singing 'Dry Bones' as they caper behind x-ray screens, which fits in the politically incorrect minstrels too. But that feels too contrived, I'd prefer something more natural, even if it is more subtle.

*I know I haven't always stuck rigidly to these rules, sometimes I've wavered, but I'm trying to return to the straight and narrow. Honest.

I put up a suggestion for Minstrel. (No-one has replied.) Is it not too complicated mixing two separate things - unless they begin with the same letter?

Mixing unPC topics isn't too problematic I'd have thought, it's just keeping in character. Just so long as the main topic is clear. But as I said, the 'Minstrels + X-ray' scenario is too contrived.

I put 'Minstrel' up for the election in the 'what should I illustrate next' poll, where it has so far garnered 0 votes from the miserable turnout.

Someone has used my vote. Obviously. It won't let me vote.

Who would do such a thing? The swine! Unless of course it's just this forum software acting quirky, in which case I should perhaps write a strong letter of complaint to the nice Christian souls ( www.eblah.com ) who innocently supplied it, free, for my unsavoury purposes.

In any case, it looks like 'Arab' is the next candidate chosen by the electors.

why not x-ray as in airport security screening a briefcase containing..

a) marital aid device
b) gun/bomb/knife/cactus
c) black market organ
d) black market orphan
e) pirates!

or.. as in "100,000 radiations."

Midgets. Farm animals. Midgets and farm animals.

Don't pretend you don't know what I'm on about.

Apart from not having to pretend I that don't know precisely what you're insinuating, since your meaning is totally obscure, I have two quite different points to raise with you here Theo. Pay attention now.

1) 'XXX movies' would never have featured in a mid C20th children's illustrated alphabet, so un-PC or not they have no place here.

2) It's not just the 'X' movies that we should be concerned about. Even movies supposedly aimed at a family audience can deprave and corrupt. I commend you to www.capalert.com - the ChildCare Action Project's Christian Analysis of American Culture. As you would expect, a movie such as 'South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut' - www.capalert.com/capreports/southpark.htm - receives heavy censure, but a degree of opprobrium is also earned by some seemingly innocent movies. I leave you to see if your favourites are reviewed. In most cases the reviewer has taken the trouble to enumerate every instance of Wanton Violence, Crime, Impudence, Hate, Sex, Homosexuality, Drugs, Alcohol, Murder, Suicide and Offense to God, so that you don't have to.

Crumbs! Those people are thorough! They even find offence in Bambi!
